of Natalia Timerman
While waiting for her flight at the airport, Natalia runs into Felipe, the palliative care doctor who treated her father, Artur, who passed away a few years earlier. Through their conversation, the narrator reflects on her loss and recalls the events surrounding her father’s death. We follow the small gestures and events that make up the portrait of Artur’s physical decline and its effects on the family, from the news that his illness had returned to the final moments of his life. As her father’s death becomes imminent, Natalia’s sister, who works on an offshore platform, receives the news and struggles to get home in time to say goodbye. In the present, still grappling with her grief, Natalia concludes the book with an account of her trip to Ukraine in search of her origins.
