Synopsis

In this play by actress and writer Mariana Lima, we follow a resident doctor on duty who, when presented with a patient who has suffered head trauma, embarks on an investigation into the workings of the human brain and its relationship with emotions and language. Drawing on the author-protagonist’s diaries, reading notes and medical descriptions, the play mixes science, literature and performance to reflect on thought-provoking themes that move the sensibilities of readers and listeners

The monologue “Cérebro_Coração” is actress Mariana Lima’s first foray into dramaturgy. By combining literary references, scientific notes on how the brain functions and reflections on language and emotion, the author transforms this class performance into a unique opportunity to stimulate her audience’s thoughts and emotions.

Narrated by Lima herself, who starred in the play during its 2018–19 run, the audiobook is a unique experience, inviting listeners to closely follow the nuances the author imprints on the text through her voice. Passing through themes such as depression, memory, the nature of time, the body and life, the monologue presents a masterful labyrinth which, through its text and powerful performance, achieves impressive results, instigating us to learn, be moved and say “yes”. On TV, she has appeared in productions such as “Cordel encantado” and “Sessão de terapia,” among other series and soap operas. She was a member of Teatro da Vertigem for ten years and acted in several plays. She won the Shell Award for Best Actress for her play “Pterodátilos” in 2011. She also wrote the play “Cérebro-coração” (Cobogó).
