Daniela Thomas is a multimedia artist: filmmaker, set designer, theater director, and playwright. One of the founders of Supersônica, Daniela is a partner and artistic director at the publishing house. In theater, she directed Brecht’s Mother Courage (Shell Award for Best Direction in 2019), Molly Bloom, The Seagull, and Penthesilea. As a filmmaker, she directed the feature films O Banquete and Vazante (Berlinale 2017), wrote and co-directed with Walter Salles the films Linha de Passe (official selection at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival), Terra Estrangeira, O Primeiro Dia, and one of the episodes of Paris Je T’aime. She co-directed Insolação with Felipe Hirsch (selected for the 2009 Venice Film Festival). She was creative director, with Fernando Meirelles and Andrucha Waddington, and set designer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics. She has designed the sets for over a hundred theater and opera productions in Brazil, Europe, and the United States. For her work as a set designer, she was awarded the Golden Triga at the Prague Quadrennial of Scenography. In 2023/24, she served as associate producer of Walter Salles’ film I’m Still Here, winner of the Golden Lion for Best Screenplay at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
