Synopsis

Vidas secas, one of the greatest classics of Brazilian literature, tells the story of a family of migrants traveling through the northeastern hinterland in search of a place to rebuild their home. Fabiano, Sinha Vitória, their two sons, and their dog, Baleia, endure the drought in a narrative that is as powerful as it is sobering. The landscape and the characters’ thoughts and desires contribute to an arid yet accurate and contemporary portrait of Brazil.
